Transition Program from Certificate III to Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (HLT42507)

Allied Health Assistants working in the area, who hold the Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (HLT32407) who wish to further develop their skills and gain the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (HLT42507) may be eligible for a combination of exemption, recognition of prior learning, and recognition of current competency that fast tracks their completion of the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance. This accelerated program is designed for you to study on consecutive Mondays so that you can continue to work.

Entry Criteria
Applicants must hold the Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (HLT31702 or HLT32407) and currently employed as an Allied Health Assistant.

Training Program
The duration of your training program will be individually assessed based on prior study and workplace experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Participants will undergo an RPL assessment process to establish which units they need to undertake.

Core units

  • Contribute to organisational effectiveness in the health industry (HLTHIR402B)
  • Implement and monitor compliance with legal and ethical requirements (HLTHIR506B)
  • Contribute to OHS processes (HLTOHS300A)
  • Implement and monitor infection control policy and procedures (HLTIN403B)

Mandatory Elective units
Physiotherapy mandatory elective unit group

  • Deliver and monitor a client-specific exercise program (HLTAH401A)
  • Assist with physiotherapy treatments and interventions (HLTAH402A)
  • Deliver and monitor exercise program for mobility (HLTAH403A)
Occupational therapy mandatory elective unit group
  • Assist with the rehabilitation of clients (HLTAH407A)
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of client functional status (HLTAH408A)
  • Conduct group sessions for individual client outcomes (HLTAH409A)
  • Support the fitting of assistive devices (HLTAH414A)

Selected Elective units

  • Support the development of speech and communication skills (HLTAH410A)
  • Respond effectively to difficult or challenging behaviour (HLTCSD306B)

Other Required units

  • Assist with an allied health program (HLTAH301A)
  • Comply with infection control policies and procedures (HLTIN301B)
  • Maintain high standard of client service (HLTCSD201B)
  • Use basic medical terminology (BSBMED201A)
  • Communicate and work effectively in health (HLTHIR301A)
  • Assist with client movement (HLTCSD305B)
  • Recognise healthy body systems in a health care context (HLTAP301A)

Delivery
This qualification will be provided in flexible delivery format with attendance on-site at Mayfield Education for lectures and practical sessions. There is a structured off site leaing and clinical placement component required for this course. Duration of each of these will be based on exemptions from previous study and recognition of current competencies.

Approximately 10 days attendance dependent on RPL granted.

Dates

Commencing 4 June 2012
4, 18, 25 June; 16, 30 July; 6, 13, 20 August; 10 September; 16 November 2012

Hours between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.

140 hours of clinical placement undertaken in the workplace.

Assessment
Students are assessed against specific performance criteria for each unit of study. There are continuous assessment tasks throughout the course which have been designed to consolidate core knowledge and skills prior to final assessment. Tasks include practical exercises, written tests and completion of learning workbooks. Final competency assessment occurs in the workplace.

Nationally Recognised Certificate

Learning Pathway
Additional units may be undertaken to complete the requirements for speech pathology assisting or podiatry assisting. Some credit may be granted towards tertiary studies in an Allied Health field.
