Certificate IV in Cardiac Technology (HLT42107) by Distance Education

This course is designed to develop skills and a detailed knowledge of the areas of cardiac technology relevant to the cardiac technician. It provides an opportunity to develop a strong theoretical background in essential areas of cardiac technology and practice newly gained proficiency under skilled supervision.

Entry Criteria

  • VCE or equivalent standard of education
  • Current employment as a Cardiac Technologist
  • support of the workplace to undertake this qualiification
The student's workplace will need to make a commitment to provide the student with on-the-job supervision, mentoring and coaching by appropriately qualified and experienced staff. The workplace will need to provide resumes/curriculum vitae of staff who will supervise and assist in the learning and assessment of students. Each student must have someone from their workplace who holds the Certificate IV in Training Assessment. This may be their Advisor/Mentor or someone who can supervise the assessments.

Training Program
Compulsory Units
14 units - 10 compulsory and 4 pre-selected electives. All units must be successfully completed to receive the award.

Compulsory Units

  • Communicate and work effectively in health (HLTHIR301A)
  • Contribute to OHS processes (HLTOHS300A)
  • Perform electrocardiography (ECG) (HLTCA401B)
  • Perform holter monitoring (HLTCA402B)
  • Perform stress testing (HLTCA403B)
  • Perform basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a cardiac testing environment (HLTCA404B)
  • Confirm physical health status (HLTAP401A)
  • Comply with infection control policies and procedures in health work (HLTIN301B)
  • Use specific health terminology to communicate effectively (HLTCOM408B)
  • Apply first aid (HLTFA301B)
Elective Units
  • Contribute to effective workplace relationships (BSBFLM303C)
  • Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers (HLTHIR403B)
  • Apply advanced resuscitation techniques (HLTFA404A)
  • Apply advanced first aid (HLTFA402B)

Delivery
This course is designed to be undertaken by distance education over a minimum of 8 months.

Mayfield Education will ensure appropriately skilled and qualified trainers and assessors provide support and guidance to both students and workplace supervisors/mentor.

Assessment
Learning and assessment is through, workbooks, assignments, exams and competency record checklist to record supervised workplace based procedures and activities.

All workbooks, assignments, exams and workplace competency records will be assessed by Mayfield Education.

A Funded fee is available through Skills Victoria.

Full Fee: $3,990

Fee instalment plans may be negotiated with students depending on individual circumstances.
