Certificate IV in Cardiac Technology (HLT42107) by Distance Education
This course is designed to develop skills and a detailed knowledge of the areas of cardiac technology relevant to the cardiac technician. It provides an opportunity to develop a strong theoretical background in essential areas of cardiac technology and practice newly gained proficiency under skilled supervision.
Entry Criteria
- VCE or equivalent standard of education
- Current employment as a Cardiac Technologist

Compulsory Units
14 units - 10 compulsory and 4 pre-selected electives. All units must be successfully
completed to receive the award.

- Perform electrocardiography (ECG) (HLTCA401B)
- Perform holter monitoring (HLTCA402B)
- Perform stress testing (HLTCA403B)
- Perform basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a cardiac testing environment (HLTCA404B)
- Confirm physical health status (HLTAP401A)
- Comply with infection control policies and procedures in health work (HLTIN301B)
- Use specific health terminology to communicate effectively (HLTCOM408B)
- Apply first aid (HLTFA301B)
- Contribute to effective workplace relationships (BSBFLM303C)
- Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers (HLTHIR403B)
- Apply advanced resuscitation techniques (HLTFA404A)
- Apply advanced first aid (HLTFA402B)
Delivery
This course is designed to be undertaken by distance education over a minimum of 8 months.
Assessment
Learning and assessment is through, workbooks, assignments, exams and competency record checklist to record supervised workplace based procedures and activities.
