Allied Health - Certificate IV in HLT42507
Commencing 26 February and 13 August, 2009
    Allied Health Assistants work directly with clients to implement allied health programs. They may work under the supervision of physiotherapists, dieticians, podiatrists, speech therapists and occupational therapists.

Allied Health - Certificate IV Transition Program
Commencing 5 May and 23 October, 2009
    This course is for Allied Health Assistants who hold the Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (HLT31702 or HLT32407) who wish to further develop their skills by gaining the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance HLT42507. These people may be eligible for a combination of exemptions, recognition of prior learning and recognition of current competency that fast tracks their completion of the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance.

Cardiac Technology - Certificate IV in HLT42107

    This training is designed to develop skills required and a detailed knowledge of the areas of cardiac technology relevant to the cardiac technician.     Long term care facilities are those in which residents with limited self-care abilities are looked after by a variety of health care workers. Operating Theatre Technician Work - Certificate III in Health Services Assistance HLT32507
Distance Education
    This training prepares the person to take on the position of an operating theatre technician and become a competent and reliable member of the health care team. The OTT works under the guidance and supervision of nursing, anaesthetic and surgical staff enabling the participant to develop both their technical and interpersonal skills. This program is available as a traineeship.

Operating Theatre Technician Work - Section A and Section B - Certificate III in Health Services Assistance HLT32507

Section A - Commencing 9 February and 14 September, 2009
Section B - Distance Education
    Because of the specific needs of students this course has been divided into Section A and Section B. Section A is for those not currently working as an Operating Theatre Technician. After successful completion of Section A, students who have secured a position in a hospital theatre may apply to complete the qualification by enrolling into Section B. Mayfield offers the course in two parts to enable those not working an opportunity to gain employment within this field.

Sterilisation Services - Certificate III in HLT31107
Commencing 5 February and 1 June, 2009
    This Nationally Recognised Certificate is an appropriate baseline qualification for personnel employed in sterilising facilities. It is suitable for staff involved in the preparation and sterilisation of reusable medical and surgical equipment or the preparation and sterilisation of textile packs for use in health care facilities.

Stomal Therapy - Certificate in
Commencing 16 February, 2009
    Endorsed by the Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nurses Inc (AASTN).

    The Stomal Therapy Nurse (STN) has been described by the AASTN (N. Polmear), as one who works "in a clinically advanced practice role. They develop, implement and evaluate strategies for the support, care, education and rehabilitation of anyone anticipating surgery resulting in temporary or permanent faecal or urinary diversion. They porvide clinical assessments and therapeutic management for specified health and illness presentations." The course prepares the Division 1 Nurse for the STN role, adopting an active role in stomal therapy, wound management and contemporary management.
