This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required of the Registered and Enrolled nurse to deliver excellence of care for the diabetes patient across the acute, aged care and community care sector.

Entry Criteria
• Registered as an endorsed division 2 enrolled nurse
• Completion of unit Contribute to the complex nursing care of clients. (HLTEN505A)
• Completion of Medication Endorsement for Division 2 Nurses (HLTEN507A, HLTAP501A)
Delivery
This 80 hour unit is delivered via:
• 5 classroom days
• 5 days clinical placement
• Self-paced learning
Course Content
- Knowledge of diabetes care within the context of the Australian health care environment
- Assessment strategies and knowledge to meet the needs of clients with diabetes
- Planning diabetic care in consultation/collaboration with the health care team
- Perform complex nursing interventions to assist clients in achieving and maintaining optimal diabetes health
- Evaluation of plan of care for clients with acute or chronic presentation of diabetes
