This course is essential for personnel who need to know medical terminology including hospital ward clerks, secretaries, receptionists, claims officers, interpreters, court reporters, pathology, mortuary staff and insurance agencies. It is also helpful for those wishing to take up studies in a health profession.

Course Content
• Origin and structure of medical terms
• Basic anatomy and physiology of the nine body systems
• Common disorders in each system
• Routine medical investigations
Delivery
Delivery is by structured on-line learning. Utilising this method, it is anticipated the course will be completed within a 3 month period.
On-line activities and assignments are provided in addition to regular contact and participation via Mayfield’s on-line 2 hour workshops once per fortnight. These will provide the learner with exciting and challenging activities and tools by which to learn this extraordinary language.
Students must have access to a computer with internet capabilities.
On acceptance into the course, students will be provided with clear instructions and password to enter the on-line workshops

Intake 2: 1, 15, 29 June, 13, 27 July, 10, 24 August 2010
Intake 3: 7, 21 September, 5, 19 October, 9; 16, 30 Nov 2010
All sessions will be conducted between 2.00 – 4.00 pm Eastern Standard Time.
Assessment
Students are assessed against specific performance criteria for the unit of study. This will include: on-line activities through the workshops, assignments and a closed book exam.
