Diabetes Education and Health Care - Graduate Certificate in V12936
Commencing 2 March and 13 July, 2009

    This program enables you as a health professional to become a Diabetes Educator. This post-graduate course enables you to develop higher level skills and expertise in diabetes management. Whatever your practice setting or location, you as a Diabetes Educator are charged with the responsibility to work towards improving health outcomes for your clients. Approximately 275 new cases of Type 2 diabetes are diagnosed every day in Australia (AusDiab, 2007). Diabetes Educators with specialist knowledge and skills can make a real difference.

Medical Emergencies in Children
3 day short course - 1-3 June, 2009

    Many medical emergencies in children occur during the course of day-to-day life. It has been noted through the media that a number of children die or become severely handicapped due to the mismanagement of emergency medical situations. This course endeavours to provide the participant with knowledge and skills to manage the most common situations found in children who are in care.

Nursing Preceptorship in Residential Aged Care Environments
2 day short course - 15, 29 June 2009

Nursing - Return-To-Practice Program for Division 2 Nurses
Commencing 6 March and 6 August 2009
    This program is for division 2 Nurses who have not practised for more than five years, who wish to update their knowledge and skills in order to satisfy the criteria for re-registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria (NBV). Upon successful completion of this course, participants may apply to the NBV for registration in division 2 of the Victorian Nursing Register.

The Role and Function of the Division 2 Registered Nurse
1 day short course - 13 February and 13 March 2009
    Current undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing students seeking registration as a division 2 Registered Nurse will need to complete this module and the associated assessment. This short course focuses on the role and scope of practice of the division 2 Registered Nurse within the multidisciplinary context. Upon completion students will be able to apply to their University to be assessed for competence.

Transition Module Medication Administration for RN2 - Intramuscular and Subcutaneous Routes
Commencing 15 May 2009
    Medication Endorsed Division 2 Registered Nurses who have completed Enteral and Topical Medication who wish to upgrade their endorsement to include the safe administration of subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.

Stomal Therapy Nursing - Certificate in
Commencing 16 February 2009

    The revised course has been endorsed by the Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nursing.

    The Stomal Therapy Nurse (STN) has been described by the AASTN (N. Polmear), as one who works "in a clinically advanced practice role. They develop, implement and evaluate strategies for the support, care, education and rehabilitation of anyone anticipating surgery resulting in temporary or permanent faecal or urinary diversion. They provide clinical assessments and therapeutic management for specified health and illness presentations."

    The course prepares the division 1 Nurse for the STN role, adopting an active role in stomal therapy, wound management and contemporary management.

Wound Management - Fundamentals of
1 day short course - 20 May and 21 October, 2009
    Wound management practices have undergone significant change and innovation as a result of an increased understanding of the physiology of wound healing. Promoting holistic and best practice wound management based on clinical research is necessary to reduce wound healing periods and unnecessary patient pain. This workshop provides a practical and theoretical knowledge framework to assist you to meet clinical practice standards in wound management for your workplace.
