Aged Care Funding Instrument
1 day short course - 10 June and 4 August 2009
    The ACFI is the new Aged Care Funding Instrument introduced in March 2008 for determining the level of care payments for residents in aged care homes. Along with the new funding instrument, new categories of fuding were also introduced. The new method was designed to better match the needs of people with dementia and those with complex health care needs. This short course is designed to enable the health care professional to better understand the model and instrument and therefore derive greater benefit from care payments that are more closely aligned with residents care needs.

Applied Medical Terminology Course
Distance Education - Intakes commence each month
    This nationally recognised course prepares you for work or study in health care. The course provides an introduction to medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and other health related topics. You will develop an understanding of medical terminology applicable to a range of workplaces.

Caring for the Feet of Elderly and Disabled People
1 day short course - 20 March, 2009, 15 July, 2009, 27 October, 2009
    Problems with the feet may be the first signs of medical conditions such as arthritis, diabetes and nerve and circulatory disorders. Elderly and people with a disability may require assistance from health professionals and carers in foot care in order to maintain good function and prevent foot problems. This course teaches you safe and appropriate foot care techniques aimed at maintaining healthy foot function in elderly and disabled people. You will learn to identify high risk situations requiring referral to specialist podiatrists. Practical supervised experience in toe nail cutting and redistributive padding is part of this program.

Continence Management Strategies
3 day short course - 15-17 June, and 5-7 October 2009
    Incontinence is a common condition affecting over 2 million Australians, and often the cause for admission of older people into emergency departments and residential care. Management of urinary and faecal incontinence requires systematic problem solving and this program promotes the assessment, prevention and implementation of strategies to improve continence.

Developing Policies, Procedures and Audit Tools in Health Care
2 day short course - 22-23 June 2009
    Health staff are frequently required to develop policies and procedures to ensure the required level of service delivery or care is provided. In addition, improvements in health care delivery are a requirement of accreditation. This program guides the participant in developing evidence based policies and procedures. This course also builds skills in developing tools that can be used to conduct internal audits. Internal auditing and subsequent action will enhance quality outcomes in your facility and assist with accreditation outcomes.

Disinfection and Sterilisation for Small Practices and Clinics

Food Safety for Food Handlers
1 day short course - 19 May 2009
    Victorian legislation requires every Food Catering and Food Business Facility to have a formal Food Safety Program. This training is designed to provide food handlers with practical strategies to comply with the Food Safety Program at their premises. It covers correct preparation, handling, storing, display and transporting of food to eliminate the risk of food contamination.

Food Safety for Food Supervisors Course
2 day short course - 19-20 May 2009
    The 1984 Food Act was amended in 2001 to require all businesses, including health facilities, to have a formally trained Food Safety Supervisor to oversee the implementation and monitoring of the organisation's Food Safety Program. This training is the recognised qualification for the health sector.

Infection Control - Introduction to
3 day short course - 16-18 February and 13-15 October, 2009
    The Infection Control Practitioner has responsibility for infection control practices over a broad range of areas within the health care setting. This short course is an introduction to the issues which confront the present day Infection Control Practitioner. Many aspects of infection control covered in the course are applicable across a broad range of enterprises beyond health care. Since an infection control program is a requirement for accreditation for health care facilities, this is an ideal introductory course for staff with responsibility for preventing and controlling infection. This course provides a ‘snap shot’ of the longer certificate courses offered at Mayfield Education.

The Role and Function of the division 2 Registered Nurse

    Current undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing students seeking registration as a division 2 Registered Nurse will need to complete this module and the associated assessment. This short course focuses on the role and scope of practice of the division 2 Registered Nurse within the multidisciplinary context. Sterilisation and Disinfection Practice for Environmental Health Officers
1 day short course - 25 March and 10 September 2009
    This program helps Environmental Health Officers understand Australian Standard AS/NZS 4815 and how it should be applied to skin penetration establishments. After completing the one day course you will understand infection control principles and the need for compliance to minimise the risk of infection. The course has a strong focus on how equipment should be cleaned and disinfected to eliminate the transmission of bacterial or blood borne infections, particularly Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and HIV.
