This revised course has been endorsed by the Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nursing.

The Stomal Therapy Nurse (STN) has been described by the AASTN (N. Polmear), as one who works "in a clinically advanced practice role. They develop, implement and evaluate strategies for the support, care, education and rehabilitation of anyone anticipating surgery resulting in temporary or permanent faecal or urinary diversion. They provide clinical assessments and therapeutic management for specified health and illness presentations."
